International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme
- Developed by the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO), founded in 1968 in Geneva
The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IB DP) was the first programme offered by the IB and is taught to students aged 16-19.
The IBDP organizes teaching and learning through six subject groups, underpinned by the IB DP Core- Creativity, Action, Service (CAS), involves students in a range of activities alongside their academic studies.
- Theory of Knowledge (TOK), in which students reflect on the nature of knowledge and on how we know what we claim to know.
- Extended Essay, which is an independent, self-directed piece of research, finishing with a 4,000-word paper.
- 6 groups of subjects
- Group 1: Studies in language and literature
- Group 2: Language acquisition – Includes Language B and Ab initio
- Group 3: Individuals and Societies – Business Management, Economics, Geography, Global Politics, History, Information Technology in a Global Society, Philosophy, Psychology, Social and Cultural Anthropology, World religions (SL only).
- Group 4: Sciences – Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Environmental Systems and Societies, Design Technology, Computer Science, Sports Exercise and Health Science.
- Group 5: Mathematics – consists of two math programs: Analysis and Approaches, Applications and Interpretation
- Group 6: The Arts – Dance, Music, Film, Theatre, Visual arts
